Danger on your doorstep

Old bombs hidden since the Blitz still turn up every now and then in Coventry, but the idea of stepping on an unexploded device near your home is totally alien.

This quick vid from MAG (Mines Advisory Group International) brings the concept a bit closer to home.

My mate (and fellow West Wing fan) Kate, who I trained with, has flown out to Sudan today as MAG’s press officer to see the work on the ground for herself.

Sudan is suffering the effects of a 40-year civil war. MAG is currently supporting 15 teams working on landmine clearance and bomb disposal, and helping education teams to teach local communities about the risks. There’s a vid about their work in Sudan here and I’ll pester Kate for some pictures when she’s back.

If you’re looking for a charity to support this Christmas, you could do far worse than lending a hand to the work MAG does across the globe. Ditch the usual Christmas card faff here and send 100 greetings for a fiver, ending the paper trail and supporting MAG.

And if all that hasn’t persuaded you, everyone’s favourite frontman might…
